The ALLIANCE has added its support to a range of amendments to draft laws aimed to reduce the number of people living in fuel poverty.
The Fuel Poverty (Target, Definition and Strategy) (Scotland) Bill (this link will take you away from our website) sets a target related to the eradication of fuel poverty and requires the production of a fuel poverty strategy. It is currently being considered by the Local Government and Communities Committee in the Scottish Parliament.
The ALLIANCE has given its support to calls by our members Energy Action Scotland for amendments to the Bill that would ensure:
- Account is taken of costs of providing unpaid care for disabled people, people who live with long term conditions and other adults requiring care and support.
- Obligations to co produce any future strategy with persons with current or previous lived experience of fuel poverty.
- The power to modify or add to the groups of people to which the enhanced heating regime applies.
Energy Action Scotland’s amendments are supported by a range of organisations, including the Poverty Alliance, Inclusion Scotland and Common Weal. Day 2 of debates on the Bill will take place on Wednesday 3 April 2019.
