Designing with all

Following our event on accessible and inclusive design processes, we share our learning and commitment to continue exploring this topic.
Exactly one month ago, on the 26th of June, we held an event to discuss ‘service design’ from a third sector perspective. Our aim was to start surfacing some of the vast experiences that exist around this topic, particularly in organisations that work with people with different needs, backgrounds or long term conditions.
We heard from a number of exceptional speakers, who shared their top tips for inclusion. As one might expect, communication underpins everything and the smallest positive steps one can take are simply to ask and listen. We have collated a small report which summarises the presentations, as well as the group discussion. You can download it on this page, under ‘Resources’.
We recommend reading it in parallel with the social media coverage of the day, available at https://twitter.com/i/moments/1149321839891664896 (this link will take you away from our website), to get the full flavour of the day.
Our commitment going forward is to
1. Connect with the Scottish Government service design community platform to ensure the expertise of the third sector plays a part. We are already in conversation with relevant stakeholders to see how this work, as well as any future learning, feeds into the wider conversation around service design in Scotland.
2. Organise future learning and networking opportunities for people in Scotland from any background to engage with design. We are already looking at opportunities to explore related themes further, either online through the ALLIANCE Live initiative or with follow up events.
To be kept up to date, or if you are interested in attending or shaping future events, please get in touch with us at DHCscot@alliance-scotland.org.uk.
Alternatively, you can keep an eye on our Twitter at @DHCscot (this link will take you away from our website) for any upcoming opportunities.
