Interview with NHS Chief Executive kicks off ALLIANCE Live in 2020

Malcolm Wright discusses how far we have come with the 2020 Vision and where next for health and social care in Scotland.
ALLIANCE Live has published a wide-ranging interview with Director General of Health and Social Care and the Chief Executive of NHS Scotland, Malcolm Wright to kick off its programme of activity for 2020.
At the beginning of the year ALLIANCE Director of Development and Improvement Cath Cooney sat down with Malcolm to discuss the current state of health and social care in Scotland and how does he see it progressing in this new decade. The interview touched on a range of subjects including public health reform, involving the third sector in designing care systems and acknowledging the disparity between Integration Authorities in progressing integration.
“I can see in to some of the work that is going on in all of the Integration Authorities across Scotland. Some of them are doing some things really well, some Integration Authorities are struggling with challenges and I think part of the challenge for all of us is how do we make sure that we bring everybody up to the standard of the best.”
As it was the beginning of the year the opportunity was taken to ask Malcolm about his New Year’s resolution. Being in a role that rarely, if ever, allows the foot to be taken off the gas it was little surprise for it to centre around driving forward improvement for people’s health and care.
“It is to really increase the pace and scale of that change and to make sure that where we have things going really well we can reduce variation across Scotland and we can increase the pace, increase the consistency of those reforms.”
