World Health Organisation’s European Immunisation Week runs from 26 April – 2 May 2021.
The ALLIANCE is supporting the WHO’s European Immunisation Week (this link will take you away from our website), and recognises the centrality of vaccines to Scotland’s public health.
With the theme ‘Vaccines bring us closer’, Immunisation Week 2021 will show how vaccination connects us to the people, goals and moments that matter to us most, helping improve the health of everyone, everywhere throughout life.
Immunisation is one of the greatest scientific innovations. In the past century, it has brought us closer to ending polio and helped us eradicate smallpox. The COVID-19 vaccines are helping us move out of the pandemic. All vaccines are tested for safety and effectiveness before they’re allowed to be used. Their safety continues to be checked while in use.
Member of the Joint COVID and Flu Vaccination Committee, ALLIANCE Director, Irene Oldfather said:
“Vaccination is a crucial cornerstone in keeping our communities healthy. Vaccination has saved more lives and prevented more serious diseases than any other advance in recent medical history. It has also enabled the economy to thrive and reduced the burden on the NHS. Year after year Scotland has delivered the flu vaccine and has seen the value of it. I encourage all individuals and organisations to support this vaccine campaign.”
Recently Irene Oldfather spoke with Director of New Medicines and Data policy at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) about their campaign around vaccine safety. Watch the interview here (this link will take you away from our website).
