New palliative care strategy launched

A new plan to make sure everyone in Scotland gets the right care and support at the end of life
The Scottish Government has launched a new five-year strategy for Palliative Care, “Palliative Care Matters for All (2025 -2030)”, with an accompanying initial delivery plan for 2025 – 2028.
The strategy highlights the changes needed to improve experiences of people of all ages with life shortening conditions and their families and carers. And to ensure, that by 2030, everyone in Scotland will have more equitable access to well-coordinated, timely and high-quality palliative care and bereavement support.
The strategy sets out some key measures, including;
- Better integration of specialist palliative care into hospital and community services
- Launch of a new Scottish Palliative Care Learning Hub to strengthen training and education
- Bereavement support community-led networks to help people talk openly about these issues
- A new round-the-clock phone line for advice and support for healthcare professionals who are providing palliative care
