International Foundation for Integrated Care are co-hosting a roundtable discussion to explore community led support on March 28, 12pm.

The Community Empowerment Act aims to support communities to do things for themselves, and to ensure their voices are heard in the planning and delivery of services. When communities feel empowered, there is greater participation in local democracy, increased confidence and skills among local people, more people volunteering in their communities, and greater satisfaction with quality of life in the neighbourhood.

Community, local, regional and national governance must be mutually supportive. In taking forward the Local Governance review the Scottish Government and local government committed to the principles of subsidiarity and local self-determination. These principles are key to understanding local needs and assets and harnessing the important contribution of place and communities to creating health and wellbeing and addressing inequalities. They will also be important principles to inform the design of the proposed National Care Service.

Participants and panellists will explore the concepts of Community Empowerment and Community Led Support and discuss the contribution of Age Friendly, Inclusive, Compassionate Communities to improving population health and wellbeing.
