The ALLIANCE has signed a joint letter to the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice with requests to protect volunteers and organisations.
The ALLIANCE has joined a number of organisations in signing a joint letter to the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice.
The purpose of the letter is to express concern at the impact of the current cost of living crisis on volunteering and the potential implications of this for the Scottish economy and its communities. Within the letter are included four potential measures for the Scottish Government to consider, that would help to mitigate the impact of the crisis on volunteering.
The four potential measures are:
- Commitment to Fair Funding for the wider voluntary sector.
- Work with cabinet colleagues to ensure that relevant public bodies are allocating sufficient resource to sustainably engage volunteers.
- Circulate the Volunteer Charter across Scottish Government departments and public sector bodies
- Consider appropriate opportunities for centralised messaging about the benefits of volunteering for individuals and communities to address the issue of volunteer shortages.
The ALLIANCE has been joined in signing this letter by: Volunteer Scotland, Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, Community Transport Scotland, Impact Funding Partners, Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action, Volunteer Glasgow, CVO East Ayrshire, VASLAn.
This joint letter welcomes the opportunity to discuss these concerns in person.
