The ALLIANCE has commented on proposals for a new national public health body in Scotland.

The Scottish Government asked for views on the role, functions and structure of a new Special Health Board to be called ‘Public Health Scotland’.

The ALLIANCE’s response highlighted support for many aspects of the new model for public health in Scotland, particularly the emphasis placed upon accountability, partnership working and co-design.

A key theme running through the response was the importance of embedding a human rights based approach within the new agency. A greater level of detail is required on how rights will be mainstreamed, respected, protected and fulfilled across the whole of Public Health Scotland and its work.
