Hearing loss support in Glasgow Libraries.
Glasgow Libraries aim to support the physical and mental wellbeing of local communities with free wellbeing support and information available across the city.
As part of the Vision for Glasgow Libraries strategy the Wellbeing Support and Information offer is being expanded. In a new partnership Glasgow Libraries are working with The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) to host ‘Near You’ drop-in support services.
RNID’s Near You service is run by friendly volunteers who provide free, regular assistance in using or maintaining hearing aids. They also provide support and information for people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.
At the Near You drop-ins you can receive support with:
• Hearing aid maintenance – cleaning or changing tubing and replacing batteries
• Advice and information – on hearing loss, using your aids, and tinnitus
• A hearing check – online, it takes just 3 minutes.
The Glasgow Library sessions launched in February 2023 in Pollok Library and Castlemilk Library with Hillhead Library and more to come over the coming months. There is also a drop-in at the Glasgow Centre for sensory impaired people.
Find out more about the Near You drop-in support sessions and get involved today on the Glasgow Life website.
RNID would also be delighted to hear from you if you are interested in volunteering at RNID – National hearing loss charity
