The paper outlines an approach to rehabilitation and recovery informed in part by ALLIANCE input.
The Scottish Government have published a new paper on rehabilitation and recovery, proposing a “Once for Scotland person centred approach” (this link will take you away from our website). Demand for rehabilitation provision in Scotland has been growing in recent years, but capacity was substantially reduced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The paper identifies some of the challenges currently facing rehabilitation, including increased complexity of need, the impact of people living with Long Covid, the combined effect of physical and mental health issues, and widening health inequalities. Previous scoping work to gather views and experiences from rehabilitation services was carried out by survey, and by ALLIANCE-led engagement with the third sector.
As part of the approach, the Scottish Government have outlined six principles of good rehabilitation:
1. Easy to access for every individual
2. Provided at the right time
3. Realistic and meaningful to the individual
4. Integrated
5. Innovative and ambitious
6. Delivered by a flexible and skilled workforce
The paper also issues recommendations as to how to deliver these principles, including future ALLIANCE support in some aspects of implementation.
