‘2024 Inequality Landscape’ report published

The Scottish Health Equity Research Unit have launched a report about health and socioeconomic divides in Scotland.
The Scottish Health Equity Research Unit (SHERU) has published a report ‘2024 Inequality Landscape‘. The report examines how Scotland is faring regarding key health-related policies since the last suite of reports published as part of the Health Foundation’s independent review in 2023. The focus is on the main socioeconomic factors that affect health and inequalities.
Key findings in the report include:
- Core outcomes related to inequalities and health are not improving significantly and some are getting worse.
- the overall lack of progress in tackling socioeconomic and health inequalities indicates that policies are not working in the right way or at the scale required to improve outcomes.
- Underneath the headline population averages, inequalities between different parts of the population remain wide.
SHERU was set up in 2024 to provide insights and analysis on the socio-economic factors that shape health. The unit brings together expertise on public health and socioeconomic analysis in a joint collaboration between the University of Strathclyde’s Centre for Health Policy and Fraser of Allander Institute, funded with support from the Health Foundation.
