ScotRGH Briefing: Priorities to protect young people from gambling advertising

Priorities concerning gambling advertising from ScotRGH's latest Roundtable event.
The Scotland Reducing Gambling Harm programme (ScotRGH) held a Roundtable event in May 2026 in Edinburgh, involving participants from the third sector, public health, government, academia, and people with lived experience of gambling harm.
The event explored how gambling advertising shapes the environments in which children and young people live, learn, socialise, and play, and identified practical priorities for reducing exposure across these settings.
Early exposure through sport, gaming, social media, and everyday environments can contribute to the normalisation of gambling before young people reach adulthood. Reducing children’s exposure to gambling advertising is, therefore, an important part of preventing gambling harm before it occurs.
This briefing brings together the key findings from the event and is intended to support conversations about how organisations, institutions, and policymakers can help create healthier environments for our children and young people by reducing their exposure to gambling advertising.
