Diana Collins, Project Officer at RNIB shares with us what she’s looking forward to most about being a judge for the Self Management Awards and more…
What is self management to you?
Understanding your condition and trusting you know yourself best; knowing who to ask for information and support; having peer support and continuing to do the things you like.
What is the best thing about being a judge for the Self Management Awards?
That I will have the chance to spend time learning about lots of ground breaking projects.
What piece of advice would you give your younger self?
I would say: “Things always work out organically somehow…. worrying won’t help! You can’t always find answers straight away. Just enjoy the path that life takes you on and trust that things will be okay. “
What would be the soundtrack to your life right now?
‘Jump in the Line (Shake, Senora)’ by Harry Belafonte. My four year old son is obsessed with this song so it’s on a lot!
If you could trade places with anybody, who would it be?
My four year old son Remy. I would love to live in the moment like he does and be so fully engaged with everything. Fun is the centre of his world! He doesn’t hold grudges and he doesn’t worry about the future.
What’s the biggest compliment you’ve ever received?
In a work capacity:
“You’re always there to help people out and helping others solve problems is always as much a priority as doing your own work.”
