Digital Discoverer Four: Paul Moore

The last in our four-part opinion series exploring what it means to be a Digital Discoverer.
- Tell us a bit about yourself
My names Paul Moore a father of 4 girls and grandad of two grandsons. Recently a peer volunteer with RAMH (Recovery Across Mental Health) supporting service users from their local library. I would help them access the resources in their community that will help with their mental health.
Whether its accessing Digital books, helping them understand any issues with their iPhones, tablets and laptops some clients asked for micro soft training. Before I could do all this, I did Hoonuit Training as part of my library induction.
- Your first memory of being awed by technology
My first memory I was thinking Attari or Black and White television. Then I thought my iPhone if I have four kids I would still be reading instruction manual. I use it for taking pictures of my own wee family. Keeping up with people I grew up with and face-timing my grandson who stays in Aberdeenshire. And when I was in hospital it was a good way of communicating family.
- Three ways in which you use digital tech to look after your health / wellbeing
I use digital tech such as my laptop to access my Open University course I do this as it helps me with my mental health, plus I’m learning more about health, wellbeing and social care.
The other thing I use is my iPad and keep in touch with members of mental health group I’m part of. There is no health professionals we are all live with mental health issues, what we do is support each other with our own lived experience.
We have had individuals who want to open up and tell their story there no pressure to do it. It could be just a good morning, goodnight or even phone numbers of places that can help. Everyday as a group we chat and now we have 402 members and growing.
I use the internet to access apps I do a lot of research for my degree course and for my own benefit so I have a better understanding and maybe go on helping others who don’t know about self management and put it across yes your doing it by using your phone, iPad and laptop to access the information that is going to help your recovery.
- The most ridiculous app currently installed on your phone
The most ridiculous app installed on my phone is difficult it’s got to be the sat nav as I don’t have a car, and it has caused so many arguments and fallouts and I got rid of it.

I’m really interested in Discover Digital: For Your Health and Wellbeing on the 24th October and see what’s really out there and what works.
