The ALLIANCE have published their response to the Post Legislative Scrutiny of The Social Care (Self Directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013.

In our response we have noted the positive experiences of those accessing Self-directed Support (SDS) as well as the ways in which the implementation of the legislation can be improved.

There are wider pressures facing health and social care workers and organisations that may impact implementation and delivery such as recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.

However, we continue to urge the Scottish Government to bridge the gap between promise and reality so that everyone is enabled and empowered to access the care and support they choose and need.

We welcome the opportunity to highlight our My Support, My Choice (MSMC) research within the response. The report findings identified numerous key improvements that would alleviate people’s concerns, build on existing good practice and increase the effectiveness and reach of positive SDS experiences.

In the full response you can find an in-depth summary of the MSMC research findings along with new, additional recommendations spanning the themes of implementation, co-production, training and investment, data, communications and equalities.
