The European and Economic and Social Committee are looking for interested young people for annual youth event.
The European and Economic and Social Committee (EESC) are looking for UK nominations for the 2024 edition of their youth event, Your Europe, Your Say! (YEYS).
The next YEYS will take place on Wednesday 6 March 2024, as part of the EESC’s Civil Society Week (CSW) from 4-7 March 2024 in Brussels. Since 2010, Your Europe, Your Say (YEYS) has been the EESC’s flagship event which gathers young people from EU member states and the EU candidate countries. YEYS offers the opportunity to debate topics of relevance to civil society and particularly to the youth by sharing experiences and finding consensus by simulating EESC’s legislative work.
YEYS 2024 will focus specifically on youth election participation and how the European elections are an important way for young people to make their voices heard. YEYS 2024 aims to motivate participants to vote in the European elections in 2024 and beyond and encourage others to do so as well. The YEYS recommendations will feed into the EESC’s EU elections resolution.
The target audience for YEYS 2024 will be young voters, aged 18-25 from the EU’s 27 Member-states, the 8 candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Türkiye and Ukraine) and the UK.
The EESC is looking for youth/civil society organisations in Scotland to nominate a young person to participate, or for young people to apply themselves as part of the open call. If nominating, please email youreurope@eesc.europa.eu with the details of the young person by Friday 15th December (please see details below). If putting in an application for the open call, then the deadline is 31st December. Apply here
As YEYS is a youth-oriented event, the EESC invites organisations to select the youngest possible representative, and if possible, also a first-time voter.
Commenting on YEYS, Irene Oldfather, chair of the Scottish Advisory Forum on Europe says:
“It’s great to see the U.K. invited to participate in the Your Europe Your Say (YEYS) along side candidate countries. It’s a demonstration that our young people can still get involved and have a say in the EU.
It’s a great opportunity for Scottish young people to network and participate and I encourage as many as possible to apply”.
The event will be held in English.
The EESC will arrange and pay for accommodation in Brussels for a maximum of two nights, as well as a return flight or train journey between the country of residence and Brussels for each of the participants. Travel guidelines shall be distributed to the selected participants upon their registration.
We look forward to receiving the details of your nominated candidates by Friday 8 December 2023. For each person, please send us:
- name of delegate;
- a title or position in your organisation (if applicable);
- with a short (max 300 words) bio/resume (including age and gender);
- contact details including an email address
