Learn more about the Parkrun BSL glossary and YouTube video series

To celebrate World Hearing Day on the 3rd of March, the British Society of Audiology shared a special communication from Parkrun – the weekly free, volunteer-led 5k runs which take place across the UK every Saturday morning.

Through removing the barriers to community physical activity for people who are Deaf, this can improve health, and support meaningful social inclusion.

Examples of improving inclusion include:

  • Development of a BSL glossary and YouTube video series including key Parkrun terms and participation information.
  • Deaf and hard-of-hearing “headline” events, where Deaf and hard-of-hearing volunteers and runners
lead parkruns and encourage widespread use of BSL.
  • Dedicated BSL social groups who meet to take part in parkrun and socialise together.
