UK Government launches consultation on ethnicity and disability pay gap reporting
- Area of Work: Policy and Research

- Published: 9th April 2025

This consultation is seeking views on how to introduce mandatory ethnicity and disability pay reporting for large employers.
Currently, most ethnic minority groups earn on average less than their White British peers. Similarly, while there has been growth in employment rates for disabled people in recent years, disabled people have, on average, lower incomes than non-disabled people.
To address these issues, the UK Government has launched a consultation to gather views on introducing mandatory ethnicity and disability pay reporting for large employers with 250 employees or more. The consultation will also ask how the measures should be implemented.
The responses to the consultation will inform and shape the Equality (Race and Disability) Bill, as announced in the Labour Party’s Manifesto and the King’s Speech.
The consultation is open to anyone interested in these issues. Views are particularly welcome from those who may be most affected by the different measures, including:
- Disabled people’s organisations
- Employers
- Public sector bodies
- Race and disability stakeholders
- People from ethnic minority groups
- Disabled people
The consultation closes at 11:59pm on 10 June 2025. You can submit your responses online: Equality (Race and Disability) Bill consultation survey
