Have you been affected by cancer? Would you like to influence how cancer services are delivered in Scotland?
Apply now to become a member of the Transforming Cancer Care Executive Group or Delivery Group
Scottish Government and Macmillan Cancer Support are working together to transform cancer care in Scotland.
Transforming Cancer Care is a programme of work to enable health, social care and third sector partners to improve the cancer pathway for people from the point of their cancer diagnosis. It builds on existing Macmillan services to ensure all people in Scotland with a new cancer diagnosis have access to services that support and meet their needs.
Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE) has partnered with Macmillan Cancer Support to make sure people affected by cancer are at the centre of this work.
We are looking for people affected by cancer who want to become members of the Transforming Cancer Care Executive Group or Delivery Group.
The Executive Group provides national leadership to shape, deliver and oversee the partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support and the Scottish Government to transform cancer care across Scotland. The Delivery Group leads the roll-out of Improving the Cancer Journey and spreads learning from the redesign of cancer services.
What we expect of you
We recognise that it is impossible for one person to represent the views of everyone affected by cancer in Scotland. Your role is to provide your own perspective as someone with experience of cancer and cancer services.
We expect you to:
- prepare for meetings by suggesting agenda items, read papers and attend pre-meet briefings
- participate in quarterly meetings and contribute to discussions
- raise relevant points and question papers and accompanying evidence appropriately
- influence decisions by sharing your perspective as a person affected by cancer
- develop working relationships with group members, professionals and other stakeholders who attend the meetings
- keep up to date on cancer policy and cancer service developments in Scotland.
The term of appointment is until March 2023, although you are free to step down at any time. Members will serve on either the Executive Group or Delivery Group, but not on both.
The Executive Group and Delivery Group meetings take place for around two hours every three months. Due to the pandemic, meetings are currently held online using Microsoft Teams, but there may be opportunity in the future for people to choose to attend in person.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for people who are living with, or have been affected by cancer through someone they know, love or have cared for. We would prefer if your experience is within the last five years to reflect current cancer care services. It would also help if you have:
- an active interest in how cancer policy in Scotland is shaped and delivered
- some understanding of cancer services available in Scotland
- experience of working in a decision-making group such as a board or committee
- willingness to consider the views and experiences of other people in a balanced and objective way, even if they are different from your own.
How to apply
If you are interested, or just want to find out more, we would be delighted to hear from you by email or phone.
Contact Jacqui Stevenson, Macmillan Lived Experience Programme Manager at the ALLIANCE, by email to macmillan@alliance-scotland.org.uk. Or call 0141 404 0231 to leave your contact details and Jacqui will call you back.
