A toolkit that empowers young people to take charge of their health and wellbeing and voice their views on what matters to them.
The ALISS team is delighted to present the updated ‘Our Health, Our Place, Our Voice’ toolkit – a resource designed to empower young people to take charge of their health and wellbeing. First developed in 2015, the toolkit has been reshaped to meet the changing needs of today’s young people and the evolving educational landscape, reflecting the importance of having young people’s voices heard.
About the toolkit
The original toolkit was developed nearly a decade ago in collaboration with two high schools and professionals from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Its aim was clear: to empower young people to express their views on what matters to them, and equip them with the relevant skills to manage their own health and wellbeing.
A lot has changed since then and young people face news challenges – from the rise of social media to the impact of the pandemic on health and wellbeing. That is why in May 2024, we consulted a group of professionals working closely with young people in East Ayrshire to make sure the toolkit remains relevant and useful. Their insights were invaluable in helping us make meaningful updates to ensure the toolkit better meets the needs of young people today.
What’s inside
The updated toolkit is designed to be practical, flexible, and engaging. It includes a variety of interactive activities across five themes, which are easy to adapt and link directly to the Curriculum for Excellence and the National Youth Work Outcomes & Skills Framework. This means it can be used effectively in schools, youth groups, and other learning environments.
A key part of the toolkit is introducing young people to ALISS (A Local Information System for Scotland). ALISS is a national digital programme that helps people find and share information about health and wellbeing services in their communities. By learning how to use ALISS, young people can discover local opportunities, from mental health support to sports club and creative activities.
We believe the toolkit will be a valuable resource for professionals working with young people, and young people alike. We hope you find the activities helpful and inspiring. If you have any feedback or suggestions for improvements, we would love to hear from you. Get in touch with us at hello@aliss.org.
