Social Side Gig offers a new recruitment service to help connect students and employers around part-time social care roles.

In working with higher-education career services and social care organisations, Social Side Gig is working to match students and employers to fill part-time social care roles that are manageable, worthwhile and deliver social impact.

The Mission

Social Side Gig’s mission is to support care organisations to meet their staffing needs with reliable, motivated student workers, while providing students with meaningful, flexible jobs that build real-world experience.

Proven Impact

In 2024–25, they successfully piloted their model, matching students to part-time care roles based on their availability, career interests, and personal strengths.

  • 100% of pilot participants remained in employment 9 months after starting,
  • Organisations reported high levels of satisfaction with candidates,
  • Students described their roles as personally fulfilling and professionally valuable.

Employers

Having developed trusted partnerships with Universities and Colleges across Central Scotland, the team are keen to work with a wide range of social care organisations to support them to recruit top-tier student workers who are enthusiastic, compassionate, and ready to make a difference.

Social Side Gig’s service includes:

  • Crafting and placing your job advert on relevant university job boards,
  • Promoting roles on campus in collaboration with university and college career services, using the Social Side Gig brand that appeals to students,
  • Responding to candidate queries and managing communications,
  • Screening applications and coordinating interviews,
  • Supporting onboarding until the candidate starts employment,
  • Issuing a Social Side Gig Certificate to candidates who complete 300+ hours of service.
