The UN Committee on the Rights of Disabled People wants to hear from disabled people that have been affected by violence.

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is an international human rights treaty, overseen by a Committee of independent experts with lived and professional experience.

This CRPD Committee issues guidance on how the CRPD should be understood and implemented by countries – like the UK including Scotland – that have signed the treaty.

Since it began, the CRPD Committee has gathered a lot of evidence about disability-based violence. It often recommends that countries that have signed the treaty need to prevent and stamp out all forms of violence against disabled people, punish those responsible, and compensate victims.

The Committee members now want to write guidelines to support the prevention, eradication, punishment, and reparation of violence based on disability. They specifically want to hear from disabled people about their experiences via an online survey. It is available in English and Spanish, in Easy Read, International Sign Language, and a technical language version.

The deadline is 30 November 2025.
