ALLIANCE Live continued to bring content to people during the second year of the pandemic.
In 2021 ALLIANCE Live harnessed the capabilities of recording remotely to bring audiences regular and up to date digital content with a focus on the important issues, information and practice taking place within health and social care in Scotland.
The year began with two releases focussing on matters of policy that were firmly in the public consciousness. In a video interview, Susan Hannah from NHS Scotland’s Organ Donation Services team shared the key details on what people should know and consider as Scotland moved into an opt-out system for organ and tissue donation. Catriona Matheson, Chair of the Drug Deaths Taskforce lead listeners through some of the reasons behind the drug-related death rate as part of the ALLIANCE Live series of podcasts.
Moving into spring, ALLIANCE Live brought together a collection of organisation’s that were part of a cohort of projects funded for 5-years as part of the Self Management Fund. In a roundtable podcast, representatives from the projects discussed the learning that had been achieved with the extended funding term and highlighted the benefits of such an approach for commissioners and funders. ALLIANCE Live was pleased to welcome Gregor Smith, the Chief Medical Officer for Scottish Government who reflected on his first 12 months in the role. The conversation covered the need to capture the innovation that was a result of the pandemic and the ways in which the NHS can help tackle wider threats to Scotland’s health such as climate change.
In the second half of the year ALLIANCE Live aimed to provide a direct offer to ALLIANCE members by taking part in a Membership Spotlight (this link will take you away from our website). These take the form of short video interviews where colleagues from a third sector organisation can share work currently taking place within the organisation and priorities going forward. The videos aim to raise awareness of the various initiatives and invite networking opportunities with projects that have similar goals. With newly elected MSPs now settled into their roles, ALLIANCE Live created a short series of conversations with those MSPs that had lived experience either through a long term condition or disability or as an unpaid carer. The conversations brought together stories of their experiences with how they intend to use their time as an elected member to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Scotland.
ALLIANCE Live continued full steam ahead into the final three months of the year. In response to the Scottish Government’s NHS Recovery Plan published in August, ALLIANCE Live produced the NHS Recovery Plan: Third Sector Focus series. This was a collection of interviews with third sector and civil society leaders on the need for strengthened partnerships with the statutory sector and reinforcing the importance of listening to the voices of lived experience in the remobilisation and redesign of services. The collection was summarised into a short video that was presented by health journalist, Pennie Taylor (this link will take you away from our website).
