Homeless Network Scotland and Clan Childlaw are running a training session around UNCRC and children’s housing and homelessness rights.
Did you know that incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into Scottish law guarantees the right of children to be involved in decisions that affect them, including decisions about accommodation and housing?
A new online training course created in partnership with Clan Childlaw is designed to help homelessness and housing staff fully understand what this means for their work – and explore strategies for preventing homelessness for children and young people.
The training will support you to:
- Explain the UNCRC principles and what they mean for children and young people experiencing homelessness
- Explore care experienced children’s rights when they are at risk of homelessness
- Identify good practice when planning for leaving care to prevent homelessness and being directed into unsuitable accommodation
- Explain continuing care rights to prevent homelessness
Who is this for?
The training will be useful for local authority team leads and service managers as well as housing and homelessness public service providing organisations including housing associations.
It provides a useful overview of new legal obligations for board members and CEOs and will be of interest to charities and third sector providers working with children and young people.
Date
- Wednesday, 30 April online
- 11am-1.00pm with breaks
Cost
Please contact Homeless Network Scotland if you want to attend any of their training courses but don’t have an organisation funding your place. They sponsor some free training places through the year for students and people who are unwaged or using homelessness services. Frontline Network also has a training fund available.
