The ALLIANCE are delighted to announce Dr Hannah Tweed and Amy White have joined the ALLIANCE Scottish Sensory Hub.

The Scottish Sensory Hub acts as a bridge bringing together people with lived experience of sensory loss from across Scotland, the third and public sectors, and Scottish Government to improve policy and practice.

Dr Hannah Tweed has been appointed to the position of Programme Manager. Hannah brings a wealth of experience from her previous role as Senior Policy Officer at the ALLIANCE and experience working within academia and research, including a focus on Sensory Loss.

Hannah was the ALLIANCE’s lead researcher on the “My Support My Choice” project, carried out in partnership with Self Directed Support Scotland. My Support My Choice is the largest direct consultation to date on people’s experiences of SDS, providing vital evidence, analysis, and recommendations for improvements to social care in Scotland. She has worked extensively with colleagues across the sector to highlight disparities of access to social care across Scotland and improve social workers’ sensory awareness training and resources.

Amy White, joins the Scottish Sensory Hub team as the Senior Sensory Hub Officer (Deafness).

A former Senior Audiologist in the NHS working with both children and adults, Amy is passionate about sensory care across the lifespan. She has a keen interest in nurture and attachment as a vehicle for improving attainment and her previous roles include communication support for deaf children in mainstream education.

Amy’s interests also include sensory loss and brain health having undertaken research on promoting human rights and social justice in care homes for older people through improving sensory care and inclusive communication.

Sara Redmond, Chief Officer of Development shared that the Scottish Sensory Hub is a platform for the voice of lived experience for anyone living in Scotland with Sight Loss, Hearing Loss, Deafness, Dual Sensory Loss and Deafblindness. Hannah and Amy’s appointment compliments the Scottish Sensory Hub team and wider ALLIANCE development, and we look forward to working collaboratively across all sectors and networks to ensure there is more mainstream consideration of sensory matters in the design of policy and services.
