The ALLIANCE welcomes the homecare medicines review to improve care for those who need it.
The ALLIANCE welcomed the publication of the Scottish Government’s Medicines Homecare Review.
This review is particularly significant as it includes the important findings of the ALLIANCE’s Patient Voices Workstream, which sought to understand and address the needs and preferences of those receiving homecare medicines across Scotland.
Our work focused on “What Matters Most to People” by engaging directly with recipients of homecare medicines as well as their family members and carers. Through an online survey and a series of conversation cafes with various charities and carer organisations, we gathered invaluable insights that highlight the experiences and challenges faced by those who use this important service.
We extend out gratitude to the member organisations and individuals who engaged with the Patient Voices Workstream and contributed their time and shared their experiences.
Dr Irene Oldfather, Director Strategic Partnerships, External Affairs and Outreach at the ALLIANCE commented, “It is important to understand the need of patients with complex and long term health conditions in receiving prescription medication. As an organisation we are committed to supporting experts by experience to influence the design of services. This review underscores the importance of listening to what matters most to those who use these services, ensuring patients voices are at the heart of policy and service design, that they are equal partners in their own care and that their needs met with empathy and understanding.”
