Read on for our top 10 ways to get involved in Self Management Week 2025.
Self Management Week is held every year to raise awareness of the powerful impact self management can have on people’s lives.
Self management is a collaborative and empowering approach that places people as leaders in their health, with support from responsive systems and communities. Successful self management is about people living with long term conditions being in ‘the driving seat’; feeling supported, heard and respected.
The inspiration for our campaign this year comes from one of the five Principles of Self Management as set out in Gaun Yersel; ‘I am the leading partner in management of my health’.
We regularly hear great and inspiring stories of this principle in practice, but we know there are still barriers to making it a reality for everyone. That’s where you come in! We want to hear from you; share with us your experiences, insights and ideas, and tell us:
What do you need to lead?
To make a truly valuable impact and get people talking about Self Management we want you to get involved and we want to know about it. Help us spread the word about what makes successful self management!
Here are our Top 10 Ways to Get Involved:
- Share your story by answering the question ‘What do you need to lead?’. For example, what helps you manage your condition, or what more or less could your health care team do? You can send us a few lines in an email, submit a blog, or create a short video. More details here.
- Join the conversation online. Follow @SelfMgmtScot on X to stay up to date with the work we are doing, and share your own posts on social media. Use the hashtags #SelfManagement25 and #WhatINeedToLead.
- Host a celebration event during the week. Wherever you are, why not host a celebration of the changes self management has made? However small or large, we’re here to help you with your ideas. You can submit your event to us for additional promotion. More information can be found here.
- Use our campaign materials at your events and highlight amazing examples of supported self management.
- Support the Self Management Awards and vote in the public vote of the Self Management in the Community Award – the shortlist will be announced on 06 August.
- Promote the Principles of Self Management. Learn them, share them and explore how they apply in real life.
- Sign up to the Self Management Network Scotland to help drive the work we do.
- Explore and share the Self Management resources on our website page. You can also submit resources you think would be useful to others.
- Connect locally. Join up with or create a self management network in your local area.
- Spread the word. Signpost your networks to find out more about Self Management. Spreading the message is how we make positive change.
