Integration in Action: Rethinking Power
- Area of Work: Health and Social Care Academy
- Type: Event
- Date: 16/09/2026 at 1:00pm - 3:00pm
- Location: Online (Teams)
We'll explore what meaningful involvement of lived experience can look like and the difference it makes in health and social care.
Join the ALLIANCE and the International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC) Scotland on Wednesday 16 September, 13:00-15:00, for the next Integration in Action event. This series explores the conditions for successful integration, including examples of good practice and ideas for the future using the Academy’s Five Ambitions for the future of health and social care.
The next event will explore what it means to move beyond participation toward genuine power sharing in health and social care. Rather than focusing on how people can fit into existing systems, we will examine how systems can change to share power more equitably.
We will hear from individuals and organisations that are creating new ways for people to influence the decisions that affect their lives and communities. Through discussion and real-world examples, we will explore what happens when traditional power structures are challenged and decision making is redistributed at all levels: personal, community, organisational, and systems.
By centring the experiences of people directly affected by decisions, the session will encourage participants to reflect on what genuine partnership looks like and how we can create health and care systems where lived experience shapes not only conversations but outcomes.
Through panel discussions and Q&As, we will:
- Consider the conditions that help people participate confidently and meaningfully in decision making.
- Explore different approaches to sharing power, including governance roles, co-design, and grassroots models for community-led decision making.
- Reflect on the impact genuine power sharing can have on people, services and communities
