The ALLIANCE has signed a joint letter urging the First Minister to double Scottish Child Payment Bridging Payments.
The ALLIANCE has signed a joint letter, along with 120 groups across Scotland, calling for Scottish Child Bridging Payments to be doubled.
In April 2022, the Scottish Government doubled the Scottish Child Payment. This is already making a big difference, particularly in light of rising food and energy prices.
Bridging payments were introduced in 2022 ahead of the extension of the eligibility of the Scottish Child Payment to support families until they were eligible to receive the Child Payment. However, the bridging payment has not been doubled in line with Scottish Child Payment.
We are calling for the Scottish Government to also double the next two instalments of the Scottish Child Bridging Payment, from £130 to £260. This would help to keep families afloat until the Child Payment itself is increased and fully rolled out.
The letter reads:
“We urge you and your government to continue to do the right thing, prioritise support for children and commit to doubling the bridging payments as part of wider action to support households through the cost of living crisis.”
