The letters outline concerns with the accessibility of the consultation on Human Rights Act reform.

Update as of 8 March 2022

The UK Government have answered calls of campaigners regarding the accessibility of the Human Rights Act Reform consultation.

Easy Read and Audio versions of the Human Rights Act consultation are now available. The consultation deadline for people using the Easy Read or audio version, and for organisations who represent the interests of people who require Easy Read or audio versions, will be extended to Tuesday 19 April 2022.

To request an extension and an accessible copy of the consultation, email HRAreform@justice.gov.uk

The ALLIANCE has signed two joint letters, led by Liberty and the British Institute of Human Rights, outlining concerns with the accessibility of the UK Government’s consultation on Human Rights Act Reform.

The letters say that the UK Government has excluded some people from responding to the consultation by publishing an ‘Easy Read’ version of the document 12 days before the end of the consultation process which opened in December 2021. The letters also highlight that the ‘Easy Read’ version is a text-only document, with no pictures or audio file.

The letters call for an extension to the consultation because of the oversight, and ask for the Joint Committee on Human Rights to raise these problems with the Ministry of Justice.
