The ALLIANCE has signed two joint letters, led by Liberty and the British Institute of Human Rights, outlining concerns with the accessibility of the UK Government’s consultation on Human Rights Act Reform.
The letters say that the UK Government has excluded some people from responding to the consultation by publishing an ‘Easy Read’ version of the document 12 days before the end of the consultation process which opened in December 2021. The letters also highlight that the ‘Easy Read’ version is a text-only document, with no pictures or audio file.
The letters call for an extension to the consultation because of the oversight, and ask for the Joint Committee on Human Rights to raise these problems with the Ministry of Justice.
