The Highest Risk List is being ended on 31 May 2022, as a result of vaccinations and new treatments.

The Scottish Government have announced an end to the Highest Risk List (this link will take you away from our website), previously referred to as the Shielding list, from 31 May 2022. During earlier periods of the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals who were shielding were asked to take stricter precautions than the general population. However, the clinical advice had already changed to suggest those on the list could follow the same guidance as everyone else, unless specifically told otherwise by a relevant medical professional.

According to the Scottish Government, clinical evidence shows that the vaccination programme and introduction of new treatments for COVID-19 have significantly reduced the risk posed by the virus. The list is not used to determine vaccine prioritisation or treatment eligibility, and the NHS will be able to contact individuals when necessary.

Immunosuppressed people will continue to receive relevant support, and the Government have issued specific guidance for them (this link will take you away from our website). In addition, there is further information available for people currently on the Highest Risk List for when the list is formally ended (this link will take you away from our website).
