The ALLIANCE is working with the Scottish Government to implement the Women's Health Plan with women at the centre
The Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE) is recruiting new members for our Lived Experience Group that is supporting the Scottish Government’s Women’s Health Plan (WHP) and innovation across women’s health. The WHP aims to improve women’s health inequalities by raising awareness around women’s health, and improving access to health care.
The WHP Lived Experience Group, hosted by the ALLIANCE, provides opportunity for members to share their experience to influence chance, stay updated on progress of the WHP, and learn about current priorities and innovation in women’s health in Scotland.
The Group brings together lived experience and third sector representatives from across Scotland, and meets mostly virtually via Zoom, although sometimes we meet in-person. The Group meets at quarterly intervals, with opportunities for members to participate on an ad hoc basis in external meetings, consultations and focus groups.
We are always looking for new members who have an interest and experience in women’s health and are passionate about progress in this area.
Group members are women and people who use women’s health services, 16+, living in Scotland. [1]
We are particularly interested in hearing from women who are currently underrepresented within engagement on women’s health. This may include but is not limited to:
- Neurodiverse individuals
- Girls and young women (16-25)
- Gypsy/Traveller women
- Ethnic minority women
- Disabled women
- Older women (+75)
- Women with an experience of: poverty; homelessness; the criminal justice system
Please be aware that there is limited space on the Group and we wish to ensure that there is a wide variety of experiences related to women’s health related conditions. Although we recognise that everyone’s experience of a condition will be individual to them, we may not be able to accommodate your participation in the Group at the moment on account of ensuring diversity of health experiences. We will however do our best to accommodate your interest in the topic of women’s health through other areas of our work.
If you are interested or wish for more information then please email whp@alliance-scotland.org.uk telling us a little bit about yourself and why you wish to join the Group. Please also make us aware of any accessibility requirements you may have, or adjustments that we can make to support you to participate.

Notes
[1] The Women’s Health Plan and the ALLIANCE’s programme uses the term ‘women/woman’ throughout but it is important to highlight that it is not only those who identify as women who require access to women’s health and reproductive services. All healthcare services should be respectful and responsive to individual needs.
