Local Elections 2022: ALLIANCE Member Manifestos

ALLIANCE members have been sharing their key asks for local councillors ahead of local elections on May 5.
Elections will be taking place on Thursday 5 May across Scotland, electing a total of 1226 councillors to the 32 local councils in Scotland. Councils are in charge of many of the services that matter most in people’s daily lives, including social care, transport (especially roads and pavements), green spaces, schools, bin collections and leisure facilities.
ALLIANCE members have put together manifestos, outlining the policy priorities they’d like newly elected councillors to focus on over the next five years. We’re highlighting a selection of these that some of our members asked to be shared more widely:
- RNIB Scotland, “Local Vision” – PDF version, Word version (these links will take you away from our website). See also an opinion piece for the ALLIANCE by James Adams, Director, RNIB Scotland.
- Carers Scotland, “2022 Election Asks” – Web version (this link will take you away from our website).
- Marie Curie, “Scotland needs compassionate communities” – PDF version (this link will take you away from our website).
- includem, “#NeedsNow” – Web version (this link will take you away from our website).
Ahead of last year’s Scottish Parliament election, the ALLIANCE published our “Equally Valued” manifesto. Many of the themes remain relevant to local elections, particularly around providing digital choice in public services, investing in social care and mental health, and promoting accessible transport.
You can find out where to vote on the Electoral Commission’s website (this link will take you away from our website). The Electoral Commission has also produced specific guidance for blind and partially sighted voters (this link will take you away from our website). Voting is open between 7am and 10pm.
