The strategy aims to increase participation in and widen access to volunteering, whilst ensuring the voice of volunteers is heard.

The Scottish Government have published a new Volunteering Action Plan (this link will take you away from our website), the result of a process they led in partnership with Volunteering Scotland. Development of the plan involved over 100 participants, including the ALLIANCE’s Mandy Andrew who chaired the working group on “Places and Spaces.”

In addition to supporting the volunteering aspects of the National Performance Framework (this link will take you away from our website), the plan has four key goals it will be measured against:

  • Increase volunteering participation
  • Widen access to volunteering
  • Listen to volunteers
  • Provide great experiences

Actions highlighted in the plan relate to the themes of policy, funding, leadership, evidence, learning, capacity building, resilience and digital volunteering. Specific actions include local volunteering strategies to be developed by Community Planning Partnerships; funding standards focused on societal impact; and supporting volunteering leaders.
