This post offers the successful candidate an opportunity to be involved in decision making around the provision of transfusion care.

The Infected Blood Inquiry is the largest inquiry conducted in the UK to date.

One of the main recommendations set out in this inquiry was to give patients a voice. In the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, both donors and patients and their safety is at the heart of everything we do. This post offers the successful candidate an opportunity to be involved in decision making around the provision of transfusion care and its resources. The candidate would be able to influence, inform, and improve this process. They want to know what is important to patients, their carers, and relatives.

The meetings would largely be performed via a digital platform but there may be face to face meetings. Travel costs would be reimbursed. They would provide materials and resources to help educate around subjects under discussion. No prior experience of patient/public engagement work is required but the candidate would ideally understand blood transfusion or have experience of it. Ideally the candidate would be from haematology or obstetric patient groups, but consideration is not restricted to those groups.

Non healthcare background candidates welcomed but there is a requirement that the individual would have to be able to work with other people including health care professionals.

The point of contact for anyone interested is Julie Gillies email: Julie.gillies5@nhs.scot

It would be expected that the successful candidate would work within their confidentiality policy and GDPR guidelines while working with the group.
