Last month, representatives of the SSPN held a parliamentary reception to raise awareness.

The Scottish Social Prescribing Network (SSPN) held a parliamentary reception in June 2022 to raise awareness of social prescribing.

The reception was attended by over 70 guests, including Maree Todd MSP, Minister for Public Health, Women’s Health and Sport.

Healthandcare.scot reported on the parliamentary reception and on social prescribing in Scotland more broadly. The article outlined that:

“social prescribing has been a part of Scotland’s health and care offerings since at least the 1990s, and has become more widely used with the establishment of community link  workers (CLWs) who provide a connection between primary health care teams and non-clinical community organisations.”

However, it also highlights that its “wider rollout has been limited by insecure funding arrangements and an “abysmal failure” to communicate the role of social prescribing to the public.”
