Share your experiences of accessing and using NHS Lothian services by survey or focus group.

NHS Lothian want to make their services more accessible for Deaf and Deafblind children and young people. They are running a survey and focus groups to gain a better understanding of what good healthcare services look like, both in the community and in hospitals.

A BSL video (with captions, no voice-over) about NHS Lothian’s consultation, including the survey and the focus groups, is below.

This consultation is supported by the British Deaf Association, Deaf Action, Lothian Children’s Deaf Club, and the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE).

This consultation is for:

  • Deaf and Deafblind children and young people
  • Families of Deaf and Deafblind children and young people
  • Qualified Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People (QToDs)
  • People working to support Deaf and Deafblind children and young people.

There are two ways to get involved to share your experiences – you can complete an online survey and you can also take part in a focus group.

Survey

The survey is for Deaf and Deafblind children, young people, and their families, and for people who work to support Deaf and Deafblind children and young people including Qualified Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People (QToDs).

It is open until 30th June. The survey is available in written English and BSL. Access the survey here.

You can also respond to the survey in BSL. Please send any videos via WhatsApp to 07595 453318. They will be translated into English by a Deaf BSL translator.

Focus groups

If you are interested in taking part in a focus group, please email loth.getinvolved@nhs.scot stating where in the Lothians you stay: East Lothian, Midlothian, West Lothian, or Edinburgh. This will help allocate you to the focus group closest to you.

Communication support will be provided.

Focus group dates confirmed so far include:
