An exciting opportunity to support DES in meeting its strategic aims.

Disability Equality Scotland is looking for up to six enthusiastic and committed volunteers to join the existing members of their Board. New Board members will have the skills and knowledge to help DES meet their strategic aims.

Members of the DES Board of Directors work closely with each other to provide important governance and contribute to Disability Equality Scotland’s overall strategy. They help ensure DES meet their objectives and primary aims as a charitable organisation.

Your other main duties will be to:

  • Ensure effectiveness of, and accountability for Disability Equality Scotland’s operations, aligned with our primary aims and criteria set by our funders.
  • Communicate effectively with Board members, the Chief Executive Officer and staff, as well as other stakeholders, including Access Panels and their members.
  • Champion the primary aims of DES and ensuring that our work is always focused on those it works to serve.

You will be required to volunteer a maximum of 8 days per year. This includes preparing for and participating in four quarterly Board meetings each year. These dates are scheduled in advance. All Board meetings are online and last about two hours. You are also required to participate in our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and annual Access Panel Conference.

The closing date for applications is Friday 12 June 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an online interview with the Convener and CEO of DES during the weeks of 22 and 26 June 2026.
