Minister outlines improvement plan for NHS audiology services

Alison Thewliss MSP writes to Health, Care and Sport Committee as part of the First Minister's 100-day commitment on audiology.

On 26 August 2026, Alison Thewliss MSP, Minister for Community Care, held a meeting with NHS Heads of Service, community audiology providers and lived experience stakeholders (including representative from the ALLIANCE), to discuss a draft improvement plan for NHS audiology services.

The meeting formed part of the the First Minister’s priorities for the first 100 days of the Scottish Government, and followed on from the Ministerial Roundtable event in March 2026 which discussed “what does community support look like for Deaf and Deafblind people in Scotland?”

The Minister has now written to the Health, Care, and Sport Committee outlining the work to develop a phased improvement plan for audiology services.

The Minister also confirmed a new Audiology Stakeholder Forum would be established to provide continuous opportunities for feedback from relevant organisations.

The ALLIANCE welcomes this development and supporting the work of the Audiology Stakeholder Forum.
