The ALLIANCE has signed a joint letter calling for an independent Food Commission to be included in the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Bill.
The ALLIANCE, alongside 17 other signatories, has signed a joint letter to Maree Todd MSP calling for an independent statutory Food Commission to be established as part of the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Bill.
There are clear links between access to healthy, affordable food and people’s ability to self manage their long term conditions effectively. The Good Food Nation (Scotland) Bill aims to make positive change to our food system, including the duty for Scottish Ministers and certain public bodies to create Good Food Nation Plans.
The Bill is currently at Stage 3. This means that MSPs can propose final changes to the Bill. To ensure effective implementation of the Bill, the ALLIANCE is calling for a new body to oversee and guide progress.
Responsibility for food policy lies with many different government departments and agencies. An independent, statutory Food Commission would provide assistance in the development and delivery of cross-cutting food plans at both a national and local level, and would assist the Scottish Parliament in scrutinising progress.
