The paper emphasises the vital work of the third sector and highlights the need for funding and sustainable, ongoing support.
The ALLIANCE has submitted a briefing paper related to the ‘Valuing the Third Sector’ parliamentary debate, proposed by Ruth Maguire MSP on behalf of the Equalities and Human Rights Committee (this link will take you away from our website). The debate will take place on Tuesday 1st December.
The briefing highlights the stark impact of COVID-19 on third sector health and social care organisations in Scotland. Loss of income and increased demand during COIVD-19 is having a direct impact on the the ability of organisations to plan and deliver future services, and in some cases poses a threat to their survival. The consequences for those that rely on their vital support – including disabled people, people living with long term conditions and unpaid carers – is hard to overstate.
The work of the sector is vital now more than ever; the ALLIANCE believes that funding and sustainable, ongoing support should reflect that. Funding should be protected and increased, with longer term contracts and a flexible approach taken by funders and commissioners. This will ensure that essential services continue to reach people, adapt to their requirements, and keep staff in secure employment.
