The ALLIANCE co-signs policy statement in favour of UNCRPD incorporation

The statement seeks to incorporate the UNCRPD directly into domestic Scots law, ensuring equal protection of all human rights in Scotland.
The Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities (SCLD) recently published a position statement to call on the Scottish Government to directly incorporate the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) into domestic law in Scotland.
The ALLIANCE signed up to support the SCLD statement, which seeks to ensure we are respecting, protecting, and fulfilling all human rights in Scotland, equally. Incorporation of the UNCRPD into Scots law would formalise and strengthen Scotland’s existing commitment to the principles of the UNCRPD which are evidenced in existing Scottish Government policies such as the National Performance Framework.
The statement outlines that incorporation would “act as the bridge between policy intent and lived experience, ensuring that systems consistently deliver rights, and prevents the most serious human rights violations”.
