Join the ALLIANCE and the Scottish Government to participate in research on discrimination and health as part of the Women’s Health Plan.
The Scottish Government, in partnership with the ALLIANCE, is progressing a new research study from October 2022 to February 2023 that will support the implementation of the Scottish Government’s Women’s Health Plan (this link will take you away from our website).
The Scottish Government, in partnership with the ALLIANCE, are hosting a series of individual interviews with young women, girls and people who use women’s services aged 16-25 years across Scotland to explore perceptions and experiences of discrimination and the impact on health for this age group.
The findings from this work will allow us to build evidence about women’s health inequalities in Scotland. We will use what we find to make recommendations about women’s health and experiences of discrimination in a report.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for women or people who use women’s services living in Scotland, aged 16-25 years, to participate in an online, telephone or in-person interview (depending on availability and your preferences). We will be running these until end of February 2023. They will be approximately 45 minutes and can be at any time of your choosing. The Scottish Government will offer all participants a £30 shopping voucher as a thank you for taking part in the study.
All interviews will begin with an introduction to the study and consent principles and you will be prompted with questions which may include:
- What comes to mind when you think about your health and being ‘healthy’?
- What kind of things where you live do you think make it easier or harder to be ‘healthy’?
- Is discrimination something you think about in relation to your health?
- Can you think of any examples where you experienced or witnessed discrimination?
- Do you think you face financial barriers to being healthy?
You don’t have had to experienced interactions with healthcare and women’s services to participate, we are interested in all young women’s views
Please email laura.tinner@gov.scot to register your interest. Please let us know of any accessibility requirements with advanced notice so we can arrange them for the interview. A member of the team will be in touch to provide further details of the study and a consent form.
Notes
[1] The Women’s Health Plan is inclusive of trans women, trans men who continue to require access to women’s health services, those with variations in sex characteristics and non-binary people.
[2] What we mean by discrimination is: the unfair treatment of people based on certain characteristics including their sex, gender, race/ethnicity, disability, age, religion, education level, where you live, language and sexual orientation. These things can affect our health and experiences of health services, either individually or in combination (e.g. being a woman from an ethnic minority background). We want to find out about how these factors impact on young women’s health in Scotland.
