Good Practice in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare: The Rights and Wrongs – Event report

The ALLIANCE and Scottish AI Alliance produce a DigiFest24 report with actions and recommendations across the digital health and care sector
This year, the ALLIANCE DigiFest event (October, Radisson Blu Hotel Glasgow) included a panel session with Digital Citizen Panel (DCP) member Peter McDade, the ALLIANCE Chief Officer for Development, Sara Redmond and Scottish AI Alliance (SAIA) Projects and Programmes Manager, Dawn McAra-Hunter.
This session was delivered in partnership with the Scottish AI Alliance and brought out some key themes for the DCP and stakeholders to consider working towards. The report outlines the themes and calls to actions generated through discussion.
The report’s findings are of value and they indicate where challenges still remain:
- Knowledge/understanding of AI
- Mistrust re: personal data protection
- Affordability/inclusion
There were references to resources and networks to support:

- The work of the Digital Citizen Panel: The Digital Citizen Panel
This short report also marks another year of partnership with the SAIA and the DCP as we deepen understanding and the role of citizens in influencing policy and design. We are very pleased, therefore, to announce that DCP member Peter McDade has been selected to join the SAIA Community Advisory Group. The new group is in the early stages of preparing their terms of reference and activities for the next few years. Their guidance will influence development of stronger strategies to ensure AI in health care is ethical, inclusive and trustworthy in Scotland.
