Allied Health Professions Compendium updated for 2023
- Area of Work: The ALLIANCE
- Type: News Item
- Published: 4th July 2023

The compendium showcases the breadth of work carried out by Allied Health Professionals across Scotland, including in mental health.
The Allied Health Profession Federation Scotland (AHPFS) have recently published the ‘Scotland Allied Health Professions Compendium 2023‘. AHPFS represents 12 of the Allied Health Professions (AHPs) in Scotland. Collectively AHPs are the third biggest workforce in the NHS, providing a range of support in roles such as paramedics, physiotherapy, radiography, and speech and language therapy.
The first version of the Compendium was published in 2020, and brought together a range of positive AHP impact stories. The new version for 2023 includes additions demonstrating the impact of AHPs in mental health.
Amongst the stories included in the compendium are:
- A dramatherapy programme in Dundee, using drama and community arts to help people address difficult feelings and thoughts, and reduce stigma around mental health.
- Occupational therapy in a GP practice, offering early intervention for patients rather than the usual acute service provision.
- Orthotics support for a patient with Motor Neurone Disease, helping her to keep her head raised to observe and enjoy the world around her.
