Community Links Practitioners in Pollok in the south of Glasgow deliver successful Long Covid course

Throughout the months of February and March, ALLIANCE Community Links Practitioners (CLPs) at Pollok Health Centre organised and delivered two successful 8-week courses titled ‘Long Covid and Wellbeing’, which was open to individuals living in the south side of Glasgow who have been affected by Long Covid. Topics covered goal setting, healthy minds, relaxation and sleep, eat well, live well, confidence and self esteem, effect of Long Covid and support.
Guest speakers included a GP, yoga teacher, wellbeing coach and CLP Rebecca Totterdell and Senior Community Links Officer Sharon Webb.
The courses were well attended, with participants stating how much they valued being able to share their experiences with other people and how just being in a room with others with Long Covid helped them realise that they are not alone.
During the courses, participants formed friendships and have reported feeling less isolated. They also gained knowledge of community groups and strategies for self management. Several participants also joined the ALLIANCE’s Long Covid Network and are keen to attend future Long Covid support groups.
It is hoped that further funding will be sourced to facilitate the continuation of this course and to enable individuals living with of Long Covid to access ongoing informal, face-to-face peer support.
If you would like to get in touch to find out more information about this course or if you have an interest in hosting a similar course or peer support group, we would love to hear from you – please get in touch with us at smns@alliance-scotland.org.uk.
