Long Covid Kids
Since 2020, Long Covid Kids (LCK) have provided essential support and resources to thousands of children and young people living with Long Covid, and the people who look after them. They have created tailored facilities to meet the needs of children and young people with Long Covid and their families. Every element of LCK’s work is co-produced with people with lived experience of Long Covid. While community for many people relates to the place in which they live, for children and young people with Long Covid LCK’s online community has proved invaluable. The volunteers who run LCK have built – from scratch – a vital online community, enabling children and young people and their caregivers to connect with and support each other.
Self Management Champion of the Year, in partnership with Humans of Scotland
Darren Crocker
In his twenties, Darren struggled on and off with gambling: mostly on sports betting, which then manifested into casino games and Roulette. At the height of his addiction, Darren was chaotically betting on pretty much everything. Now in his thirties, Darren is closing in on eight years gamble free. During this time, he has volunteered for a gambling crisis support line; was an active ALLIANCE forum member; talked openly about gambling harm on various platforms; and is active on social media – where he raises awareness and offers peer support to others, via his Instagram page: ‘Rule_ette_out’. He works with two lived experience groups, and is a participant in The Big Step – a campaign to end gambling advertising in football.

This understanding, along with her artistic abilities, ensures she delivers a truly person-centred project– gifting each individual with the knowledge and confidence to self-manage their health and wellbeing.
The impact Charlotte has on the lives of the Craft Café Govan members cannot be overstated.
Digital Innovator Self Management Award, in partnership with the ALLIANCE Digital Hub
Moira Anderson Foundation, Positive Steps Project
The Positive Steps Project provides a range of self-management and health improvement services for adults experiencing long-term health conditions because of child sexual abuse. During COVID-19, services were adapted for online delivery, offering support, counselling and Hands on Health (self-management programme), which is still offered according to need. Digital delivery has ensured that the Moira Anderson Foundation’s services are accessible to a great number of people that would previously have been unable to access services due barriers such as distance, finance, health problems. Digital innovation has enabled the Moira Anderson Foundation to spread the ethos of self management far wider.
Sensory Loss – Positive Self Management
Rory Donaldson
Rory learned to read Moon through individual sessions at Deafblind Scotland. Having found the joy of reaching the worlds only accessible in books, and despite being a reserved person, Rory used RNIB Journey Round the Moon Study books to step out of his comfort zone and teach other deafblind people how to read using Moon. Not stopping there, Rory is now adapting teaching resources to enable many more Deafblind people who can’t travel to the Centre to learn independently. No one that knows Rory can fail to be impressed by his achievements and commitment to improving the lives of his peers.
