Unfolding The Future

The Unfolding the Future toolkit is a resource to encourage you and your organisation to use the Five Ambitions to think creatively about how to transform the future of health and care in Scotland.  

This toolkit will help you reflect on and evaluate your current situation and plan your future direction. Unfolding the Future encourages you to reflect on obstacles and opportunities, as well as the practical actions and bold steps you can take right now.  

What are the Five Ambitions for Health and Care? 

The Five Ambitions set out the conditions for realising long term, meaningful and sustainable change in health and care. 

• Be Human- We are all human and should be treated with dignity. Everyone can thrive if our rights are protected, defended, and promoted. 

• Lead Courageously- We can all be leaders in our own lives, communities and workplaces. 

• Share Power- We make changes in our own lives and communities when power is shared. 

• Reimagine Investment- We can transform society for everyone’s benefit with sustainable investment, patience, partnership and valuing one another. 

• Measure Outcomes- We should measure success in health and care with personal outcomes, not just short-term targets.

What is the resource?  
Unfolding the Future is a six-step workbook which can be printed and folded in both A3 or A4 formats. We encourage you to use the booklet in a way that works best for you. This might mean pausing and revisiting sections.  

What difference will it make? 
This resource will help to deepen conversations about change, including reflecting on the opportunities and challenges ahead. It will help you to identify the decisions and actions you can take today.
