'What matters to you day?' publish the 2020 Annual Report and launch the 2021 website.
‘What matters to you?’ (WMTY) day, around 6 June each year, aims to showcase, encourage and celebrate more meaningful conversations so that they take place routinely between people who provide health and social care and the people who receive care and support, as well as their families and carers. In short it’s so that these conversations are embedded as just how we do things.
Against the background of the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the ethos of ‘WMTY’ has never been more important in what has been a challenging year for everyone but in particular for those working in and those receiving health and social care.
Coordinating WMTY day in 2020 as had been done in previous years was not going to be possible due to the many pressures on those working in the health and care system, working in other frontline healthcare positions or moving to home working with no access to their workplace. With all the challenges for this year, 31 countries still took part, ranging from Australia to Guinea and Kuwait to Haiti and many more.
Of course, the purpose of the ‘What matters to you?’ movement is not about the campaign resources or counting countries participating, although that does help to show the growth and reach of the movement. WMTY is about conversations, human connections and understanding what people really want and need to live the best life they can.
Professor Jason Leitch, National Clinical Director of the Scottish Government, shares his thoughts on WMTY day “I am grateful for your continued focus on “what matters to you” and the difference this makes every day to people’s lives and experiences of care and support – please keep it up! We look forward to a brighter future and a continued focus on providing high quality, compassionate care and support for the people of Scotland.”
As adjustments to a different way of working during the pandemic in 2020 were made and planning begins for WMTY21, it’s anticipated that WMTY day will continue to work differently in 2021. To facilitate this, a re-design of the website has been conducted to make access to download online resources easier and more streamlined. It is the intention this year to invite people to register so that we can keep them updated on WMTY activities and news.
