NHS Education for Scotland have developed the Social Care Career Options Tool, designed to teach people more about working in social care.
The Social Care Career Options Tool is a new online resource for people looking to join or advance their careers in Scotland’s social care sector. It’s easy to use, mobile friendly and covers over 75 roles across adult and children’s social care.
7.8% of Scotland’s workforce work in social care. It is a hugely diverse sector with varied and flexible roles meaning there are career options suited to everyone. A job in social care offers the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others as well as to gain skills and qualifications.
People working in social care or looking to join the sector often find it hard to access reliable and detailed career information. This means they can be unaware of how their existing skills and experience can match the many opportunities available.
NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) are working closely with partners in the sector to address this problem. The Social Care Careers Options Tool is part of that work and designed to inspire more people to join and stay in the social care workforce.
The tool organises job roles into families that show people how they can progress or specialise in their chosen field.
Information on qualifications and career paths will make it easier for people plan their next step in education or employment.
Inspiring career stories from real people working in social care in Scotland will help people explore and discover opportunities.
Job roles and career paths will continue to be added along with an AI chatbot to make it even easier to find relevant career options and information.
Find the Social Care Careers Options Tool at www.careersincare.scot/sccot.
